Affordable Health Insurance 365 - New Report

From Affordable Health Insurance 365, a health care plan that matches the best parts of the current employer-based system and the Medicare model would create huge savings, offer more alternatives while guaranteeing affordable coverage to all United States residents, according to a new report from the Lewin Group, a nationally respected nonpartisan consulting firm.

"By mobilizing strength in numbers to bargain for better health care and lower costs, with responsibility shared by employers, individuals and the government, this plan is a fundamental change from current Bush administration and Republican party policies, which essentially tell Americans that they're on their own," said Economic Policy Institute (EPI) President Lawrence Mishel.

"What these results show is that by building on the best elements of Medicare and employment-based health insurance, Health Care for America can provide every American good affordable, guaranteed coverage for no more than we're spending for health care today - and with the promise of big savings and quality improvements down the road," Yale political scientist, Jacob S. Hacker, said.

Affordable Health Insurance 365 - Len Nichols

From Affordable Health Insurance 365, Len Nichols, director of health policy at the center-left New America Foundation, remains optimistic about health care reform in 2009.

"The main reason I'm optimistic is precisely because we have that conversation going on," Nichols said.

Both Obama and Clinton would force insurers to offer affordable and comprehensive coverage to all, regardless of health status. They would end Bush tax cuts for families making over $250,000 to help subsidize premiums.

Affordable Health Insurance 365 - AHBP

From Afordable Health Insurance 365, 4th District Congressman Christopher Shays joined Congressmen Jim Langevin (RI-2) recently in announcing their legislative proposal to reform the USA's health care system.

The American Health Benefits Program (AHBP) Act, based on the, currently in effect Federal Employees Health Benefits Program, would provide affordable health coverage to all Americans.

"Cost and access to health care remains among the top concerns of residents of the Fourth District," said Mr. Shays. "In addition, the cost of providing health care to employees is a growing a matter of competitiveness to American employers because many of their worldwide competitors have health care systems that limit costs through a national payer system."

"Our health care plan will extend the benefits federal employees receive to the rest of our constituents, while maintaining the private health plans that many Americans enjoy today."

"My vision is that all Americans will one day have access to the same level of care as members of Congress," said Mr. Langevin. "The time has long passed to open a dialogue on reforming the nation's health care system. Such constructive, bipartisan conversations will require a great deal of time, study, and work by many parties, but I am confident it can be done. This proposal introduces a viable concept and leaves room for further discussion."
